The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Wednesday, July 29, 2009 • 6:30 p.m.

Free Online Mini-workshop - Create a Compelling Artist's Statement
Hi ,
Although you work in a visual medium, your ability to communicate clearly and concisely with galleries and collectors is critical. A well-written artist's statement can reinforce the power of your work and help you make a strong, emotional connection with gallery owners and collectors.
This coming Wednesday night (July 29th) I welcome New York arts writer Adam Eisenstat for a free, online 30 minute workshop. During this mini-workshop you will learn the elements of a powerful statement, while learning to avoid mistakes that can make your statement fall flat or go over the top.
Adam is a versatile wordsmith with extensive experience in art writing. He was the director of communications at a major New York art school and for more than 15 years he has helped artists of all genres and professional levels promote themselves effectively.
Adam will present clear, concrete advice on how to write an effective artist's statement, and will take your questions. Space for this session is limited, and it will fill quickly so please reserve your space now.
You can register by visiting https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/743596155
I look forward to having you join us

"An Adventure Everyday" by Greg Rhoades Opening at Bacchanal

An Adventure Everyday – Photographs by Greg Rhoades to be Showcased @ Bacchanal Fine Wine & Spirits
Greg Rhoades, a freelance photographer, announced that over a dozen unique cultural images will be transforming Bacchanal’s 200 year interior. He is the first artist in a series designed to spice up the appearance of the popular Bywater wine bar.
Greg’s photos epitomize the coming of age in New Orleans: following second lines through the Lower 9th Ward, late-night jamming out to jazz legends in smoky bars, costuming in Mardi Gras parades through the Quarter, and observing the fine architecture city-wide. The exhibit is slated to last two weeks. Prints are available in sizes from 4x6 and up, both framed and un-framed.
An opening party will be held Thursday, July 23rd at 7:15PM, and kicks off the artist series. Greg Rhoades will be on hand to describe the images in detail. Two jazz bands will be performing, and the grill featuring delicious sandwiches and salads will be open. Come drink champagne, wine, beer, or absinthe, and see New Orleans through Greg’s eyes.
For information on Greg Rhoades, please visit http://504otos.daportfolio.com

Lesley Wells Photo Exhibit at Ochsner through July 31

"Facade"
Artist Statement: This project grew from my background in architecture, particularly my interest in the relationship between buildings and their environments. I see a confluence between the planned geometric forms of architecture and the effects of nature and human interaction. For most of us, commonplace buildings tend to fade into the background of our daily routine. I derive satisfaction in finding the neglected in our daily experience and capturing its mundane elegance.

Zack Smith's "Portrait(s)" at CANARY Gallery

CANARY Gallery is pleased to present, Portrait(s) - by photographer Zack Smith
From the streets and swamps of Louisiana, to the cozy back stages of the Voodoo Music Experience, Zack Smith creates comfortable confines that
elevate his unique style of portraiture. There is a subtle, yet strong connection between subject and photographer, a statement that Smith holds highest. Whether the background is a custom backdrop by Flavor Paper, a vine laden swamp, or street corner, Smith's subjects connect with them and in turn, the viewer.
Portrait(s) will feature a selection of 4x5 shot portraits of artists that played the Preservation Hall Tent at the 2008 Voodoo Music Experience, and some of his recently shot portraits. Deacon John, Alec Ounsworth (of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah), Ben Jaffe (Preservation Hall), and The Noisician Coalition are just a few of the new images you will see at the opening.
Zack Smith is a photographer, musician, and educator living and creating in New Orleans. He is the curator of CANARY Gallery in New Orleans, LA.
