L.J. Goldstein Exhibition at The Darkroom
The Darkroom Gallery is proud to present "The Sacred Area - Photographs of the Middle East", the first ever, full color, all digital show of New Orleans-based photographer L.J. Goldstein.
The show will open Wednesday, April 22nd 6-8pm at The Darkroom Gallery's Lower Garden District showspace at 1927 Sophie Wright Place.
Known primarily for his award winning emotionally evocative medium format black and white photographs of New Orleans African American street culture, this show is a very successful departure marking a new vision in both form and content.
The Sacred Area is both a reference to religiosity of the Middle East, and to the photographs themselves. “Photographs are not pieces of reality,” Goldstein says, “photographs at their best, are this four cornered sacred area where form and content meet truth and beauty.”
In this series, documentary questions as to who, what, where, when of the subject matter of the photographs are completely overshadowed by the holy eternal artistic fib - the question of why – they speak to something outside the picture frame that is mysterious, frightening, funny, and not at all what you would expect.
Proceeds from sales from this show will go to benefit the New Orleans Photo Alliance and the Backsteppers Social and Pleasure Club.
