If you aren't familiar with Winogrand here are some quotes:
From amazon.com:
"Winogrand belongs to a group of early explorers of that borderland between documentary and art photography, sharing space with Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander, and Diane Arbus and building on the work of Walker Evans and Weegee."
From photo.net
"When Winogrand died in 1984, he left more than 2500 rolls of film exposed but undeveloped, 6500 rolls developed but not proofed, and 3000 rolls proofed but not examined. That's a total of a third of a million unedited exposures."

2007 PHOTO REVIEW COMPETITION

SMITHSONIAN CURATOR TO JURY THE
2007 PHOTO REVIEW PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
Toby Jurovics, Curator of Photography, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC, will be the juror for the . 2007 Photo Review Photography Competition. The Photo Review, a highly acclaimed critical journal of photography, is sponsoring its 23rd annual photography competition with a difference. Instead of only installing an exhibit that would be seen by a limited number of people, The Photo Review will reproduce accepted entries in its 2007 competition issue. Thus, the accepted photographs will be seen by thousands of people all across the country and entrants will have a tangible benefit from the competition.
Also, the prize-winning photographers will be chosen for an exhibition at the photography gallery of The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, and will be exhibited on The Photo Review’s website.
Because their work was seen in The Photo Review, past winners have been given one-person exhibitions, have had their work reproduced in other leading photography magazines like DoubleTake, and have sold their work to collectors throughout the country.
Awards include a Microtek ScanMaker i800 scanner with the ColoRescue system for automatic one-touch photo restoration and a 8x12" transparency adapter, a $350 gift certificate from Calumet Photographic, a Lensbaby 3G Lens and Wide Angle / Telephoto kit ($359), two $100 gift certificates from Sprint Systems, a copy of DC Pro Studio digital camera RAW conversion software from LaserSoft Imaging ($399 value), and $250 in cash prizes.
An entry fee of $30 for up to three prints, slides, or images on CD and $5 each for up to two additional images entitles all entrants to a copy of the catalogue. In addition, all entrants will be able to subscribe to The Photo Review for $34, a 20% discount.
All entries must be received by mail between May 1 and May 15, 2007.
For a prospectus and details, send a self-addressed, stamped business-size (#10) envelope to: The Photo Review, 140 East Richardson Avenue, Suite 301, Langhorne, PA 19047. The prospectus may also be downloaded from The Photo Review website, www.photoreview.org. For further information call 215/891-0214.

PRC's Shotgun Photo Contest

Rules have changed for the Preservation Resource Center shotgun photo competition so those photographers who do not wish to have their work reproduced for publicity or contribute to a planned book (100% of proceeds will raise funds for PRC’s ongoing rebuilding projects in the Lower Ninth Ward, Treme, Mid-City, St. Roch, Broadmoor and Hollygrove neighborhoods) are encouraged to compete and be exhibited at the show. Competition entrants give up no rights to their photos. As is the norm, 80% of sales price during exhibit goes to photographer. Your fine work will come to the attention of the photography department of Time Inc’s Cottage Living magazine, who are jurying the exhibit, but will not be used by the magazine or any other entity except by prior arrangement.

Louisiana Photographs Needed
Dear Ms. Scherer:
I am doing some research for a French Canadian firm, Moment Factory, that is producing a video to be projected on the walls of a building in Perkins Rowe (in Baton Rouge). I am searching for photograph collections that they can look at to see if there are images they would like to use in their video. They are looking for Louisiana images and scenes on various topics.
The representatives from Moment Factory are here in Baton Rouge now through Saturday. I'd like to set up appointments for them to see what's available.
If any of the local photographers would like to meet with them on Saturday, please have them give me a call today. My phone number is 225-356-4415. I can be reached before 9 a.m. or after 3 p.m. Or, you can e-mail me.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Sincerely,
Judy Riffel
j.a.riffel@worldnet.att.net
I have no idea if this is an opportunity that would involve any monetary compensation, and Judy wasn't sure either. At the very least it would offer some exposure, and may actually be a very cool project to be involved with. See some of their past productions here: momentfactory.com Please contact Judy directly if you are interested in having your work considered.

The Photo Alliance now has 163 official members, including a few supporters from other states.
The Moments in Time show is currently on a slow boat to Spain. Owen Murphy, Bryce Lankard and Mark Sindler will meet it there to represent the exhibition and the Alliance at the 14th Annual Dixieland Jazz Festival in Tarragona.
Rituals & Revelry just came down. The show resulted in two sales! Thanks again to Brad Edelman for the use of his lovely studio/gallery space.
Samuel Portera has work featured in the current issue of Shots Magazine.
This week we sent a letter of intent to the Jazz and Heritage Foundation, the first step in applying for a grant for Operational Support.
Victoria Ryan will soon send a wonderful selection of images by many of our members to Lenswork Magazine.
The next Photo Alliance meeting will be on Thursday, April 5, so save the date!
